Today I wanted to write about an airbrush tanning scam that’s been going around and I am hoping to make everyone else in our airbrush tanning industry aware of this, hoping to stop those scammers. Many of my previous students have been contacted by these scammers and we all discussed this in our private Facebook group. I know that not everyone is always online so I am hoping it will bring additional awareness here through the website.
The scam starts out by someone texting you and asking if you do Bodybuilder spray tanning or Fitness competition tanning. In many cases it was with the name of “Jennifer Harbert”. This picture here to the left, indicates the text message I received myself from the phone number 510-948-1118 and many of my other students reported receiving this same message but from a different phone number. It appears that they get our contact information from Yelp. I know this because one of my student told me that she just got registered on Yelp a few days prior to receiving this message. Several of my previous students have reported this, so it appears it’s really going around all over. Here is a snap shot of the message from one of my previous student:
What the scammer usually hope for is that you charge a credit card for an extreme large amount. They will usually give you a stolen credit card and ask you to charge a bit more and then refund you the extra additional money that you charged in cash. Then later on, after the credit card company finds out that it was a fraudulent charge, the credit card company will refund the money and take it away from you and then you will be responsible for paying everything back. This has been going on in many different industries. One of my previous student is also a nail technician and she reported that this was also in the nail industry. So I am assuming that this is probably going on in the whole salon industry. I hope that nobody has fallen for this. So far I have not heard of any horror stories but this is why I wanted to write about it and hoping to alert everyone.
Here are also 2 more pictures of another previous student who was texting along just to get more information from the scammer and so that we could share more with everyone:
I hope that nobody falls for this and that we can put an end to this scam. Anyone who wishes to provide more or additional information to this may add below this blog post.
I recently had 2 students who shared their spray tan room set up with me. Of course I was very impressed and felt that I had to share this here with everyone.
One recent student is Angela and she is from the San Luis Obispo area. She only finished her hands-on training 3 weeks ago and was so motivated to get everything up and running. Well here you can see the results of just one of our students. With our hands-on training, detailed checklist and lot’s of videos, she was able to quickly set up her own spray tan business at her home. Here are some of the pictures from her room at home:
And here is a video that she sent us of her spray tan room. It’s so important to make that room comfortable for your clients:
And here is another one of our previous student that set up her room within her house. It also looks so beautiful and I am sure that her clients feel very comfortable when coming for spray tanning.
I hope this will inspire more people and also give you an idea of how others set up their own spray room within their house:
This list will give you an idea of everything you need to purchase. You will be surprised how affordable it is to start this popular business.
